Shiver

if I concentrate hard enough
I feel your hands pulling the small of my back closer

accidentally
my skin might raise itself to the brush of your fingers
that were once so familiar

if I concentrate hard enough
I still feel the grains of your palm beneath my thumb
appreciating its place in my lap,
under my touch

accidentally
I can smell you
the scent mingled with memory hits me like a wave
soft but consuming

but even if I concentrate hard enough
it is only this:
concentrating
accidents
waves that slink out to sea
rather than surge toward the shore
rather than toward me,
patiently waiting, my feet buried in sand

concentrating accidentally
